The library of the Research Institute of Brewing and Malting, PLC, is a specialized technical library catering to the needs of brewery and malting. Its tradition is equally long as the tradition of the Institute which was founded in 1887 under the name Research Institute for Brewing Industry. During the first months of its existence, i.e. from October to December 1887, the expenditures for its operation amounted to 5.50 florins. According to the 1889 report on the activities of the Research Institute the library purchased 33 books and 7 journals. The brewing and malting literature gathered and archived by the library includes some unique information sources inaccessible anywhere else in the country. Among the rare items are also many historical publications, e.g. the first brewing journal Kvas , which was first published in 1873, and Pivovarské Listy ("Brewery Letters") from 1901-1919. The library fund contains ca. 3 000 books, standards and final reports. At present the library subscribes and archives 15 foreign journals, 3 domestic journal and 1 review journal from the British brewery database Brewing Research International. The library provides common library and information services. Books and journals cannot be taken off the premises. It also provides the staff with interlibrary loans. The address of the library is Lípová 15, Prague 2, 120 44 Czech Republic. The library is on the 2nd floor, door no. 202 in the RIBM building - "Pivovarský dům" (Brewer´s House), which is on the corner of Lipova Street at the junction of Stepanska, Jecna and Lipova streets. It is accessible by Metro line C – station I.P.Pavlova or Metro line B – station Karlovo namesti (Charles Square) and by trams No. 4, 6, 10, 16, 22 and 23 – tram stop Stepanska. contact: Marie Černohorská
